Interview with Dr. Melanson

Did you grow up in this area?
“I grew up in a big Acadian family, about 45 minutes from Moncton – in Grande-Digue.”
You did your residency in family medicine and then went into sport medicine. Why?
“I’ve always loved sports and I know how important sports are in our lives both physically and emotionally, so I want to help people continue to do their physical activity.”
Are you an athlete yourself?
“Oh yes! growing up I played volleyball, soccer and ball hockey. And running. Now that I have my practices and a family I’ve had to cut it back to just two sports – senior soccer and volleyball.”
What else do you do in your spare time?
“My family is my priority, and I love to read and travel and of course my sports.”
Your core belief?
“Work hard and be good to others.”
What’s your favorite color?
“I like them all! Why choose just one, there is some much opportunity out there!”
Favorite day of the week?
“Friday!!!”
What do you like to do to unwind?
“Run or play a sport and laugh.”
Random Fact?
“I have 2 dogs.”
Do you have a dream that you’d share with us?
“I’d love to be on the medical team at the Olympics.”

Return-to-Play Protocol

Returning to play after a concussion is a gradual process. Once all symptoms have disappeared and a doctor has given the player clearance to return to activity, the player should do so following the Return-to-Play Protocol from the Consensus Statement on Concussion in Sport, held in Zurich, November 2012.

CONCUSSIONS

There's Reason for Concern
