When Should You See a Massage Therapist?
- If you’re in pain or discomfort – come see us as soon as possible
- If you’re recovering from an injury – the number and frequency of treatments will vary according to the injury.
- For maintenance and prevention – you should see us every 4-6 weeks
YOUR Massage Treatment
- 30 minute appointments are for treating very specific areas – a trigger point, a specific muscle, decreased mobility in articulation – and are frequently booked in adjacent to your physiotherapy appointment.
- 60 minute treatment allows for a thorough therapeutic or relaxation treatment.
Your first appointment begins with a 15-20 minute evaluation including a few questions about the issue that brought you to us; muscle and range of motion tests to help us identify the seat of the problem.
Once she has the information that she needs, she’ll show you how to set yourself up on the table – face in the face cradle, pillow under your stomach and ankles, tucked in under the top sheet. You’ll be covered by the top sheet during your treatment; your massage therapist uncovering only the part of your body that she is working on.
At this point your massage therapist will leave you to change and get set up on the table. Rest assured, she’ll knock and ask you if you’re ready before walking back into the room.
Communication during your treatment is very important; she’ll want to know about the symptoms you’re experiencing, any questions you may have.
At the end of the treatment she’ll leave you to get dressed. It may take a few minutes for your body to acclimatise, so take your time. When you’re dressed and ready to take on the world, open the door a bit and your massage therapist will return to discuss your treatment, show you stretches that will help you, and plan future treatments.
